Frames Across the Hull
In a side view the plank seams lead the eye along the ship. A section drawing turns the view through a right angle and reveals another pattern.
In the field notebook
Cut a paper U to represent a frame. Place long paper strips across its outer face, overlapping their edges. Turn the model slowly and make two sketches, one from the side and one looking straight at the U. Label the same strip in both views.
Keep the two views together. Each records a relationship that is hard to see in the other.
