About Viking Shadows

Viking Shadows explores the Viking Age through the things people made and used. A seam in a ship’s hull, the crossing of two wool threads or a gap in a surviving timber can open a window onto a whole working life.

Our illustrated articles look at Norse seafaring, trade and craftsmanship. Each one pairs an original field drawing with a museum source so you can follow the evidence. The Viking Shadows collection includes study sheets for sketching objects and keeping your own notes.
