Comparing Two Reconstructions

November 6, 2026 · 1 min read · Archaeology
Study of a Viking ship with surviving and reconstructed lines

Before comparing two pictures of a reconstructed ship, write down what each image actually shows. A model, a plan and a sailing replica answer different questions.

In the field notebook

Select one detail shared by both images. Describe its position and shape without judging either version. Next, read the captions for the evidence behind that choice. If the captions do not explain it, leave the reason open rather than filling the gap from memory.

Finish with the one question you would ask the builders if both drawings were on the table.
