Two Silhouettes at One Scale
A narrow ship printed large on one page can look broader than a cargo vessel printed small on another. Begin your comparison with the scale bars.
In the field notebook
Choose two measured plans. Mark an equal real-world distance on separate strips of paper, then resize one drawing until those marks match. Trace the outlines on top of one another. Look first at the middle of the vessels and then at how quickly each narrows toward the ends.
Write the scale alongside the finished sketch so another reader can repeat your comparison.
