From Fragment to Outline
Cut a curved strip of card and set aside its middle third. Give the remaining pieces to a friend and ask them to draw the missing section.
In the field notebook
Compare their reconstruction with the hidden piece. Ask which clues helped: the thickness at the breaks, the direction of each edge, or an assumption about symmetry. The exercise separates an observation about a fragment from a guess about the whole vessel.
Repeat with only one end visible and note which parts of the reconstruction become uncertain.
